FAQs

I've never tried therapy before. Where do I start?

1

The free 20-minute consultation call is exactly the right place. You don't need to know what you want to work on or have the right words for what you're feeling. We start with a simple conversation — and go from there at your pace.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

2

If something feels stuck, heavy, or simply not quite right, that is enough of a reason. You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support. Counselling is for anyone who feels ready to understand themselves a little more deeply.

Do you offer sessions in French?

3

Oui! Sessions are available in both French and English. If French is your first language or simply the language you feel most at home in for emotional work, you are warmly welcome.

Do you offer sliding scale pricing?

4

A limited number of sliding scale spots are available for those who need them. If cost is a barrier, please reach out, we will always do our best to find something that works.

There is no single answer to this. Some people work through a specific issue over a handful of sessions. Others find value in longer-term work. At Amae, the pace and duration are guided by you, there is no predetermined timeline.

How long does therapy take?

What is somatic therapy and why does it matter?

6

Somatic work recognizes that we carry our experiences not just in our minds but in our bodies, in tension, in posture, in the way we breathe. Talk therapy alone doesn't always reach what the body holds. Somatic approaches invite the body into the conversation, gently and at your pace.

I'm not sure I'm ready. Is that okay?

7

Completely. Ambivalence about starting is one of the most normal feelings there is. You don't have to be ready, you just have to be curious. The consultation call exists precisely for moments like this.

Direct billing is not currently available, but a receipt will be provided after each session for reimbursement purposes. Coverage for counselling varies by provider , it is worth checking your plan under "registered clinical counsellor" or "psychotherapist."
